Who is James Doyle? Top jockey nominated for Stobart Jockey Of The Month award

JAMES DOYLE is in the running to land July's Stobart Jockey of the Month award after a brilliant month.

Doyle was at his best when delivering Poet's Word with a perfectly-timed run to win the King George at Ascot.

Doyle, 30, also won the Irish Oaks at the Curragh aboard Sea Of Class. In the Stobart Flat Jockeys’ Championship he had 23 winners from 92 rides at a strike rate of 25%.

The Newmarket-based jockey acknowledged that winning the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes was something that he’d dreamt about from an early age, and it would be an honour to win this month’s Stobart Jockey of the Month prize as recognition for that ride.

Doyle said: “It was amazing to win that race, it’s something that I’ve been dreaming about since I was a kid.

"Behind the Derby and the other classics it’s one of the most important races in the calendar so to win it was a memorable feeling.

“It was a great race, two absolute warriors going head-to-head. Poet’s Word and Crystal Ocean are incredible horses with a magnificent trainer in Sir Michael Stoute.

"I just managed to get the edge on Will (Crystal Ocean’s jockey) at the end.

“I have been in great form but I think it’s more of a coincidence than anything. I’ve managed to secure some nice rides and perhaps they’ve all come at the same time. Confidence-wise it definitely helps to get those rides and keep clocking up winners.

“It would be fantastic to win the Stobart Jockey of the Month award, there’s a lot of top jockeys out there who have produced some magnificent rides in July. To be voted the best would be a huge achievement for me.”
