Glorious Goodwood tips: Lennox Stakes – Templegate’s top pinstickers’ guide to the race
Templegate runs you through the contenders for the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood this Tuesday
SAIL into the Bai of plenty in the Lennox Stakes (3.00).
Charlie Appleby’s Godolphin hope D'Bai has been running well in hot sprints and the return to 7f should suit him. There was a lot to like about his Haydock Group 3 win last month and this race should set up for him.
Breton Rock 2/5
Rock repeat. Flew home to cause a 50-1 shock in this race 12 months ago. The race rather fell in his lap that day and he’s not been as good since. Unlikely to find things falling as kindly today.
D’bai 5/5
Bai should pay. Promising last season and improved this year after being gelded. Nice Haydock win sandwiched by decent sprint efforts. Much better at 7f and should get the race run to suit him.

Donjuan Triumphant 2/5
Won’t Triumph. Twice successful last September and chased home Emmaus at Leicester in April. Those efforts came on easy ground and he’d need stacks of rain to have any chance.
Dutch Connection 4/5
Make a Connection. Won this race two years ago and showed his liking for this track when winning here last season. Fourth in the Lockinge and he’s a proper 7f specialist so likely to bring his A-game to Goodwood.

Emmaus 2/5
No romance from this Emma. Not stood much racing but won three of his four starts. Beat Donjuan Triumphant in a Leicester Listed race. That was on heavy ground and today’s conditions are a concern.
Here Comes When 3/5
Not a When. Enjoyed his finest hour at this meeting 12 months ago when landing the Group 1 Sussex Stakes. The desperate ground clearly helped and he’s not hit those heights since. A mile is more his thing as well.
Karar 4/5
Kar insurance. This French raider chased home Limato in a Group 1 a coupe of years ago. Landed a Group 3 last season and should be about to peak after two solid efforts this term. Has definite each-way claims.
Sir Dancelot 4/5
Good knight. Bagged his first Group race when grabbing So Beloved at Newmarket in June. Dropped to 6f to run cracker when fourth in the July Cup. Still improving and looks a likely danger.
So Beloved 3/5
So close. Not won for more than two years but he does like this track. Close fifth in this race last year and running well this season. Unlikely to win but could easily sneak into the frame.
Spirit Of Valour 2/5
No medal for Valor. Come up well short in Group 1 sprints in his last two races. Last win came over 7f but he was well beaten in this race 12 months ago. The rails draw is all he’s got going for him.
Suedois 3/5
Might pay to be Sued. American Grade 1 win sounds better than it really is but his close third behind Beat The Bank last time was a fine effort. Bit unlucky in third in this last year and has each-way claims.
Tip Two Win 3/5
Could be a good Tip. Not far off the best of his generation as his 2000 Guineas second shows. Solid fourth in the St James’s Palace and the drop to 7f won’t trouble him. I’m just not sure this season’s three-year-old’s are up to much.
