Andrea Atzeni to fill in for Frankie Dettori at Glorious Goodwood

ANDREA Atzeni has landed the plum rides aboard Stradivarius and Without Parole at Glorious Goodwood.

Trainer John Gosden has turned to the Italian to partner his stable stars with Frankie Dettori set to miss the first two days of the meeting through suspension.

Atzeni has already enjoyed big-race success aboard Stradivarius, who is the odds-on favourite to win the Goodwood Cup on Tuesday.

He was in the saddle when the son of Sea The Stars won the same race last season, while he was also aboard for the colt's Royal Ascot victory in the Queen's Vase.

Atzeni said: "Obviously it's a shame for Frankie. He got the ban reduced to six days, but he's going to miss the rides on these two horses and I was lucky enough to get the call.

"I won the Goodwood Cup last year on Stradivarius and also won on him at Ascot. I'm two from two on him, which isn't a bad record."

The unbeaten Without Parole is the 7-4 favourite for the £1,000,000 Sussex Stakes, which takes place next Wednesday.

He won the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, and Atzeni got a feel for the colt with a gallop at Newmarket on Wednesday morning.

Atzeni added: "The first I knew about Without Parole was when I got the call last night.

"He's been very impressive, he's unbeaten and he looks the one to beat next week.

"I sat on him this morning and he's a good-moving horse.

"He's by Frankel and he's probably one of the most laid-back sons of Frankel I've ridden.

"He's a big, strong horse and I'm delighted to get the ride on him."
