Best horse racing tips for Saturday: Sunracing’s top picks for today’s racing at Market Rasen, Newbury, Cartmel, Newmarket, Ripon, Lingfield and Haydock

Don't miss out on Sunracing's best bet and each-way shot at all of Saturday's meetings

It's a cracking Saturday full of top class fare - and there's action for Jumps fans and Flat fans alike.

Racing takes place at Market Rasen, Newbury, Cartmel, Newmarket and Ripon this afternoon before the show rolls onto Lingfield and Haydock this evening, and here are some of the best bets.

3

Newbury

Best bet

3.00 Projection - This is a big drop in class from the Diamond Jubilee Stakes where he finished a very good fifth. A reproduction of that effort could well be good enough to take this and although he hasn't visited the winners' enclosure since his two-year-old days, he's the best horse in the field.

Each-way

2.25 Saunter - Ian Williams knows how to win big staying handicaps and can strike again in this newfangled contest. His five-year-old was a convincing winner of the November Handicap last year and off just three pounds higher can make a mark here. He's still unexposed over the trip and is fine on the ground.

Newmarket

Best bet

4.00 Ripp Orf - Flew home with an impressive turn of foot at the course last week and can win again off just a 3lb higher mark. He's unexposed over this trip and on this ground and is as consistent as they come.

Each-way

3.25 Syrian Pearl - Scrapes into this Class 4 Handicap at the head of the weights and will certainly find this easier than his two starts so far this campaign. Former course winner who's on a good mark and can take advantage of this drop in class.

BERGER KING Mark Johnston to aim Mildenberger at Glorious Goodwood before crack at St Leger

Ripon

Best bet

4.05 Aasheq - Despite the decent prize-money, this isn't the most competitive of races and gives Aasheq a chance to get back on the score-sheet after finding a very progressive horse too strong at Chester last time. He was on a roll beforehand and can win again here.

Each-way

5.50 Stewardess - This maiden handicap is unlikely to throw up any stars and gives Richard Fahey's three-year-old a good chance of getting off the mark. She was slightly disappointing last time but that was over the minimum trip, and back over six furlongs she can get her head in front.

3

Lingfield

Best bet

6.45 Timoshenko - Sir Mark Prescott has got himself a classic progressive type and this three-year-old can win once again. He did well to overhaul a Mark Johnston front-runner at Ayr last time and looks capable of going in a few more times before the handicapper catches up with him.

Each-way

8.45 Passing Star - It could be worth chancing the veteran in the finale. He's dropped to a mark from which he is capable and has performed very well over course and distance in the past. He's also coming off the back of wind surgery, which could make the difference.

KONCHOUS DECISION July Stakes runner-up Konchek seeking Richmond glory at Glorious Goodwood

Haydock

Best bet

6.00 Humbolt Current - A gelding operation got him back on track last time out with a narrow win in novice stakes. Still has potential to be much better than this grade and can take this weak handicap.

Each-way

8.30 Boundary Lane - After three starts in novices which yielded one win, can now make the grade in handicap company. Looks to be starting off on a decent mark and Michael Dods is ace with his sprinters.

Market Rasen

Best bet

2.05 Mister Universum - Dan Skelton has his team in ridiculous form and he can win the Summer Handicap Hurdle for a second time. He struck with Red Tornado (same owners) in 2016 and this one comes into the race off the back of a comprehensive victory at Warwick.

Each-way

3.15 Not A Role Model - Impressive last time out at Newton Abbot and could be progressive enough to defy a seven pound rise. This is a more competitive race but he's unexposed over fences and has the potential to be smart in this sphere.

Cartmel

Best bet

2.30 Wells De Lune - Made all at the course last time out and can repeat those heroics. Capable claimer takes off a handy 7lb and this looks a weak race.

Each-way

4.50 Dun Faw Good - Found the Hexam finish a bit too taxing last time but this is a much easier track and on the form of his penultimate start he would have a good chance here.
