Pretty Polly heroine Urban Fox on the hunt for more Group 1 success in Nassau Stakes
William Haggas' filly swept aside her opposition at the Curragh earlier this month and will bid to repeat the dose at Glorious Goodwood
PROGRESSIVE winner Urban Fox will attempt a Group 1 double when she lines up for the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
The four-year-old appreciated the step up to a mile and a quarter last time out and will try and prove she is one of the country’s leading fillies.
Having finished fourth in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes over a mile at Royal Ascot, trainer William Haggas opted to send his daughter of Foxwedge up in trip to a mile and a quarter in the Pretty Polly Stakes.
The plan worked a treat as she came clear in great style, beating the Oaks winner Forever Together in the process.
With that first Group 1 win under her belt, Haggas is confident she can continue to perform at the highest level.
He said: “The plan is to run Urban Fox at Goodwood. She has done really well. Physically she has done very well.
“I think possibly she lost her way last year. She is a great big filly and ran well at Ascot in a handicap (in May) and I really fancied her in the Group Two at the Royal meeting.
“Just when Aljazzi quickened, she only lengthened. She stayed on quite well all the way to the line and I thought she might want further and that’s how it proved.”
Haggas also had news about star speedster Muthmir, who has slightly lost his way this term.
The son of Invincible Spirit won the King George Qatar Stakes back in 2015, and could bid for another victory if avoiding Battaash.
He said: “I don’t know whether Muthmir will run in the King George.
“He is in really good form and has been a bit unlucky in his last two runs, but he is not going to beat Battaash.”
Young Rascal and Society Power will not be going to Goodwood, the trainer confirmed.
He said: “Young Rascal is not ready for Goodwood and is going to go for the Voltigeur.
“He ran moderately in the Derby. I don’t know why. He came back shell-shocked by the whole experience.
“We are cranking him up now for an autumn campaign for the Voltigeur, then possibly the Leger. I’m not sure Intello’s stay well, but he stayed well in the (Chester) Vase.
“Unfortunately Society Power is going to be sold, so he will not be making the Group Three (Thoroughbred Stakes) or the Lennox Stakes.”
