Masar to chase further Derby glory in Ireland
Trainer Charlie Appleby earmarks the Irish Derby as next port of call for Epsom Classic winner
DERBY hero Masar looks set to chase further Classic success in Ireland later this month.
Fresh from an impressive victory at Epsom, trainer Charlie Appleby has highlighted the Irish Derby at the Curragh on 30 June as the colt's likely next target.
A total of 18 horses have completed the Epsom Derby-Irish Derby double, with Harzand the most recent in 2016, and Appleby is keen to stick to a mile and a half for the time being.
Appleby said: "Myself and Sheikh Mohammed watched the replays together last night and I think we're both on the same page.
"We'll see how he is and how he comes out of the race, but he stayed the mile and a half well and I think the Irish Derby is the obvious place to go.
"We have no reason to come back in trip at the moment."

The Godolphin-owned colt provided Appleby, jockey William Buick and owner Sheikh Mohammed with their first victory in the Derby, and the horse was reported to have pulled up well after the race.
Appleby continued: "We had a quiet night and the horse pulled out well this morning.
"It still hasn't completely sunk in, to be honest.
"It was a fantastic result for everyone involved and as many people have said already, it's great for racing.

"I said last week I felt he (Masar) was a big price.
"Obviously there was a question mark about the trip and I suppose the fact the trainer hadn't trained a Classic winner before contributed, too!"
