ITV racing tips: Goodwood, Haydock and York – Matt Chapman’s top betting preview for today’s TV racing
I'M off to Haydock with the ITV gang Saturday and it promises to be a day all about speed - that's fast horses with the Temple Stakes the feature.
With racing on ITV from Goodwood and York as well it's sure to be a busy one.
Let's get straight into the Haydock action, and the first race is at 2.15, an extended 2m handicap.
Although he is high in the weights, I expect a big run from BYRON FLYER for the in-form Ian Williams stable. He's a strong stayer and might plod on better than most.
The 2.50pm at Haydock is a competitive handicap over an extended 1m with each-way 1-2-3-4 betting.
HIGHLIGHT REEL has a nightmare draw which is going to make things very hard for Hayley Turner. However, Michael Bell's runner was a real eyecatcher at Ascot last time and might be worth a few quid to place at the very least.
It's the Group 2 Sandy Lane over 6f at 3.25pm. This is the trip for JAMES GARFIELD, and dropped in class he's going to be hard to keep out the frame for George Scott and champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa.
This is his level. As there are eight runners I will back him each-way at about 5-1.
The feature Group 2 Temple Stakes is over 5f at 4.00pm, and the Abbaye winner BATTAASH is impossible to oppose.
He is a top class horse for Charlie Hills and could be even better this season as he's had a wind operation. Big ride for Dane O'Neill with Jim Crowley in Ireland for the Irish 2000 Guineas.
Matt Chapman's TV Tips
1.55 Goodwood - Algometer: 'Lightly raced and has a chance to bounce back'
2.15 Haydock - Byron Flyer: 'Strong stayer and will be plodding on at the end!'
2.30 Goodwood - Maverick Officer: 'Down at the bottom of the weights and has a great draw'
2.50 Haydock - Highlight Reel: 'Big eyecatcher last time and a place chance at least'
3.05 York - Isabel De Urbina: 'Her opposition doesn't look up to much here'
3.25 Haydock - James Garfield: 'Drops in class and will be hard to keep out of the frame'
3.40 York - Edward Lewis: 'Knocking on the door and can finally strike'
4.00 Haydock - Battaash: 'Impossible to oppose - an absolute sprinting star'
Over at Goodwood ITV show the Listed event over nearly 1m2f at 1.55pm. The testing ground gives ALGOMETER a great chance to make a winning return for Dave Simcock.
He is lightly raced but ran in the Derby behind Harzand and could well have a decent season.
There's a handicap over 7f at Goodwood at 2.30pm. The one I like each-way here is MAVERICK OFFICER, who is right down the bottom of the weights and has a great draw.
Over at York, ITV broadcast the Group 3 for fillies over nearly 1m6f at 3.05pm.
DERBY DAY When is the Derby at Epsom, can I still get tickets and who is running?
This is a poor race on paper, and Ralph Beckett's ISABEL DE URBINA might just steal the prize after a fine victory last time.
She's only rated 100 which is barely Listed class, but the opposition is poor.
Finally, ITV is all over the 5f sprint handicap at York at 3.40pm.
EDWARD LEWIS was well held by El Astronaute last time, but he's on the verge of a win and I'm hoping this will be his day for David O'Meara.
So best of luck and hope for Yeeehaaas. You Betcha!
