This year is set to be another belter and here SunSport gives you the lowdown on the race

THE Derby is set to be another thriller this year with Saxon Warrior trying to win the second leg of the Triple Crown.

The Epsom contest is part of the 2000 Guineas, Derby and St Leger treble which Aidan O’Brien’s colt is trying to win.

When is the 2018 Epsom Derby?

The 2018 Derby will take place on Saturday 2nd June.

The Investec-sponsored festival kicks off with Ladies’ Day on the Friday followed by Derby Day on the Saturday.

The race is due off at 4.30pm and will be shown live on ITV.

As of May 25th – yes!

Tickets range from £12.50 all the way up to £135.

What entertainment is there other than the racing?

BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley will play a DJ set after the day’s racing.

What much money does the Derby winner get and what type of race is it?

This year’s Derby has a prize fund of £1.5million. It is a Group 1 Flat race run over a distance of one mile and four furlongs.

The race is open to three-year-old colts and fillies – although fillies are more likely to run in The Oaks which takes place on Ladies’ Day.

It is considered the most prestigious of the five ‘Classics’ – the others being the 2000 Guineas, the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and the St. Leger.
