Horse racing tips: Betfair Hurdle trends – we help you find the winner of the Newbury contest live on ITV4 using these trends
We narrow down the field to help you pick the winner of the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury which looks set to be a competitive contest
3.35 NEWBURY: Betfair Hurdle
THERE are two very clear trends for this big-field contest — and they do a nice job of cutting down the field.
Firstly, all 10 past winners were aged either five or six.
So we can say goodbye to High Bridge, Blue Et Rouge, Remiluc, Moon Racer, Misterton, Kayf Grace, Poppy Kay, Knocknanauss, Waterlord, William H Bonney, Irish Roe and Coeur Blimey.
Next, nine of the past 10 scorers had finished at least third last time out. So of the remaining hopefuls Charli Parcs, Divin Bere, Project Bluebook and Nietzsche can be crossed out.
That has cut the original 24 down to a more manageable eight.
There is a very tight range of official ratings to focus on. While a couple of horses have defied it, eight of the 10 were no higher than 137.
That’s bad news for Jenkins, Verdana Blue, Kalashnikov, Spiritofthegames and Lough Derg Spirit — who is just 1lb too high and looks to have a big chance otherwise.
Lalor has a question mark because he has failed to win any of his past three runs, which has been a good pointer to this.
Top trends tip for the Betfair Hurdle
3.35 Newbury - Silver Streak
That leaves us with Silver Streak and Zalvados.
The latter has a lot to do at 50-1 but big prices have won this so you never know.
SILVER STREAK looks more likely after winning well at Chepstow before running a cracker in an Ascot Grade 3 at Christmas.
He’s had a little break since then, likes this trip and looks to be on the upgrade.
