Clive Cox’s Profitable retired from racing and set to start new career at stud

Clive Cox's sprinter had his finest moment at Royal Ascot when winning the King's Stand Stakes and he has performed admirably again this year

SMART sprinter Profitable has been retired to stand at Kildangan Stud in Ireland.

Trained by Clive Cox, it was as a four-year-old that he hit the headlines.

He began last season winning the Palace House at Newmarket, followed up in the Temple Stakes at Haydock and reached a career high when landing the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Bought by Godolphin for this season, he was second in both the King’s Stand and the King George at Goodwood before signing off with a fine third to Battaash in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Chantilly.

Cox said: “Profitable has a wonderful temperament and has been an absolute delight to train.

“He has been a top-class five-furlong horse throughout, performing at the highest level and saved his best performances for Royal Ascot.
