Horse racing tips: Chantilly, Epsom and Musselburgh – Steve Mullen’s betting preview for Sunday, October 1

Steve Mullen guides you through Sunday's racing from Epsom and Musselburgh and the Group 1 races at Chantilly on Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe day

Capri

SUNDAY’S CHANTILLY GROUP 1 RACES

1.10

MAGICAL looks hard to beat after winning the Debutante Stakes at The Curragh before going down in a bobbing finish for the Group 1 Moyglare there last time out.

She should have no problem with this slight step up in distance and some cut in the ground holds no fears.

1.45

HAPPILY got the better of Magical at The Curragh last time and gets a handy fillies’ allowance from the colts in this.

She gives the strong impression that stepping up to this mile will bring further improvement and she acts well on the ground. One of her rivals would have to improve a bundle to stop her.

Enable probably will win the Arc but she’s trading at around evens and that means some high-class opposition is arguably overpriced.

The one that stands out for each-way support is St Leger winner CAPRI.

Provided his efforts at Doncaster haven’t taken too much out of him, it was an excellent effort and he maintained a strong gallop on Town Moor.

Dropping back in distance won’t be a problem and his proven stamina could be an asset. He could easily run into the frame late on.

Steve Mullen's top tip for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

Capri each-way is a cracking bet. He was impressive in the St Leger and while Enable will be hard to beat he can make the frame!

3.50

LEFT HAND didn’t perform in last year’s Arc but has been knocking on the door a lot this season, including when third here in the Prix Vermeille last time out.

She is at her best with a little give in the ground and should be on the premises again.

4.35

BATTAASH can win this, provided he doesn’t get too worked up in the preliminaries. That’s what happened at York last time and he didn’t have enough energy to show his true running.

It was still a solid enough effort in fourth and he showed what he can do when winning well at Goodwood in soft ground. With Marsha seeming to like it firmer, he can turn the tables.

5.15

KARAR was impressive when winning at Group 3 here last time on similar ground to today.

He likes to keep things simple and go from the front and those tactics could pay off again here. Toscanini ran well at York last time and is another with chances.
