David Elsworth’s Desert Skyline stayed on best to win the Doncaster Cup

David Elsworth's three-year-old came from last to first to win the Group 2 prize as he swooped down the outside under jockey Silvestre De Sousa

DAVID ELSWORTH looks to have another top stayer on his hands after Desert Skyline won the Doncaster Cup.

14 years after the popular Persian Punch won the race, Desert Skyline followed in his footsteps with a brilliant staying performance.

The 2-1 favourite came home in front of Thomas Hobson and Sheikhzayedroad as he came from last to first under Silvestre de Sousa.

"I was pleased with him, of course, as he's only a three-year-old. He had a weight-for-age concession, but it's tough out there," said Elsworth.

"It's not like driving a car around the M25 and you just pull him out and go! It looked like that, but they've got to dig deep and work hard. He's young and immature. He's run consistently well at a high level and you'll hear more of him next year."

Clive Cox is thinking of stepping Heartache (6-4) up to six furlongs for the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes after she smacked of class to win the Wainwrights Flying Childers Stakes.

The Ryan Moore-ridden filly came out on top by half a length in a battle with Havana Grey to take the Group 2 contest.

"The Cheveley Park is very much on the cards, stepping up to six, as long as it's not too soft," said Cox.

"The way she's developed and grown, she's an awfully nice filly for next year. She'd be a Commonwealth Cup filly if she gets six."

Blue Laureate (16-1) won the Gary Reid Memorial British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes to give the in-form Cox another red-letter day.

Adam Kirby was doubling up after taking the Listed Weatherbys Bank Foreign Exchange Flying Scotsman Stakes on Tip Two Win (11-2) as trainer Roger Teal struck for the smaller yards.

Moore had earlier triumphed for Aidan O'Brien with Music Box (8-1) in the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes, while he completed a treble aboard Pivoine (9-4 favourite) for Sir Michael Stoute in the Coopers Marquess Classified Stakes.

Like Desert Skyline, Time To Study (11-8 favourite) was a three-year-old to defeat older stayers when Mark Johnston's colt landed a gamble in the William Hill Mallard Handicap.

The Cesarewitch will be his next port of call.
