YORK

EDWARD LEWIS has been running a lot better than his form figures suggest and he’s finally had a little help from the handicapper.
He’s well drawn in five today which wasn’t the case in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood where he got no sort of run.
He proved his liking for a big field when a close-up sixth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and showed enough pace to be in the frame for the Epsom Dash. He should give us a good run.
There are a load of dangers as you would expect. Shamshon is interesting back on faster ground after a modest run in the soft at Ascot last time.
He won a hot sprint at Newmarket’s July meeting and is only 3lb higher in the weights here.
Thesme likes it here and Frankie Dettori is a good booking for Nigel Tinkler, while Out Do is running just days after meeting traffic problems in the Great St Wilfrid at York and is another to consider.

Given there isn’t a massive amount between them on raw form, at the prices you have to favour MIRAGE DANCER over Cracksman.
They are both sons of Frankel and the former is having just his fourth run here after an encouraging third in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot last time.
He still looked very green there and veered off course when push came to shove. Despite that it was a highly promising effort over 1m2f and he shapes as though this longer trip will suit.
When it comes to Cracksman he’s been knocking on the door at the highest level, with a third in the Derby followed by second in the Irish equivalent.
We know he stays the trip and will like the ground, so deserves to be a shade of odds-on.
Mirage Dancer shouldn’t be five times his price or more though.
3.35 - Mullen's star bet
BARNEY ROY was in front of Ulysses a couple of yards past the line in the Eclipse at Sandown and he can turn the form around.
He looks just the type for York, with trainer Richard Hannon still adamant that the three-year-old is the best horse he has ever trained.
He gets slightly less weight for age this time but is improving fast and can come out on top.
It won’t be easy to beat Ulysses who has come out and finished an excellent second in the King George since at Ascot.
He’s a proven stayer and could well still be improving despite being more experienced than Barney Roy.
It will be interesting to see how dual Guineas winner Churchill does on this considerable step up in distance.
He’s bred to stay and it wouldn’t be the biggest shock if he beats the other two principals.
4.15
MAGIC CIRCLE ran out of petrol in the mega marathon Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot last time and is back over the course and distance of his most recent win today.
He’s 7lb higher in the weights since then but that seems fair enough as he got the job done well and is ideally suited by these conditions.
Euchen Glen showed his liking for this distance when winning the Shergar Cup Stayers’ 11 days ago and is just 2lb higher in the weights for this.
How the form from that meeting will work out is unknown but he won nicely and has a future in the staying game.

Many of these have been running well in softer conditions, including SAVALAS who battled really well to win at Thirsk last time.
That was on testing ground but he also finished third in much quicker going at Beverley last month. This step up in distance looks a smart move for his nursery debut and there should be a lot more to come.
Tathmeen was highly impressive when winning by six lengths at Newbury in soft and will be a real danger if taking to this ground.
Green Fortune has been in good form and looks capable of going well on this hike in class.
