Glorious Goodwood 2017 – Templegate’s pinstickers’ guide to the runners and riders for the Qatar Stewards Cup at Goodwood racecourse

Templegate runs you through the contenders for the Qatar Stewards' Cup and gives you his verdict on the fast and furious contest

BRACE yourself for a RAUCOUS celebration in the Qatar Stewards' Cup.

William Haggas' hope was third in this charge across the Downs 12 months ago and he's not had the rub of the green this season.

He was third home of the stands' side group when favourite for the Stewards Cup and the race didn't pan out for him again when fourth in a Newbury Group 3 last time.

Projection and Outback Traveller - both proven in big-field sprints - head the dangers.

DANZENO 3/5

DAN's not the man. Saw off a big field over five furlongs at Ascot last time. Stays this far but top weight is some anchor in this ground.

GROWL 3/5

BARK worse than his bite. Been running okay in Group races. Has form on soft but probably better on faster. Others better handicapped.

PERFECT PASTURE 4/5

COULD be Perfect. Has plenty of form on soft and his Windsor Listed win in May gives him a great chance. Below-par since but not one to take lightly.

DUKE OF FIRENZE 2/5

I'M no Fire man. Last five wins came over five furlongs. Well beaten over six in the Wokingham and same result is likely today.

INTISAAB 2/5

IN is out. Touched off in all-weather Group 3 in July but held in hot races since. Hard to say he's well treated and clearly vulnerable.

DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT 3/5

MIGHT Triumph. Testing ground gives him a shout. Had smart placed form last year but yet to fire since joining Andrew Balding. Too early to be writing off.

PROJECTION 4/5

GO Pro. Bit unlucky when fifth in the consolation for this race 12 months ago. Won the race on the stands' side in the Wokingham. Lot going for him.

MOBSTA 1/5

DON'T join the Mob. Won a Group 2 in Ireland last year but nowhere near that level this term. Stuffed returned to handicaps last time.

LANCELOT DU LAC 2/5

NO love for Lac. Last seven wins came in the all-weather. Well held in the Wokingham return to grass last time. Hard to think he wants today's conditions.

RAUCOUS 5/5

THE big noise. Good third in this race 12 months ago. Ran well in Group races later on including on soft.

Didn't get much of a run when well-backed favourite for the Wokingham. Better luck sees him home.

AELOUS 2/5

NO lust for Lus. Last won more than two years ago. Fair effort in a Group 3 on the all-weather last time but not running well enough to fancy today.

EASTERN IMPACT 3/5

EAST goes west. Ran well in Group races last season and in fair form this term. Not disgraced in the Wokingham but the ground is a big worry.

SOLAR FLAIR 2/5

NO Flair. Has run well at this track and stays further than this. His stamina will come in handy but not running well enough to get excited about.

POLYBIUS 3/5

POLY would not. Ran Danzeno close over five furlongs last time after a good fourth in the Wokingham. The recent rain has turned conditions against him.

OUTBACK TRAVELLER 4/5

IN with Out. Landed last year's Wokingham and didn't have things go his way this time. More likely to handle the ground than most. Must be on the shortlist.

EDWARD LEWIS 3/5

USE your Ed. Mostly run over five furlongs this season but good sixth in the Wokingham. Poorly drawn last time and a good show wouldn't be a big surprise.

SHANGHAI GLORY 4/5

COULD grab Glory. All four wins came on easy ground. Listed success in Ireland last year and easy to forgive Wokingham effort when plum last. Massively over priced.

HOOF IT 3/5

ON the Hoof. Won this race six years ago and went on to place in Group 1s. Landed the consolation race for this 12 months ago and his course form gives him a shout.

HARRY HURRICANE 1/5

BLOWN away. Much better over five furlongs these days. Made limited impression that trip here on Tuesday and has little to recommend.

UPSTAGING 3/5

CENTRE Stage. Improved rapidly last season with four victories. Flashed home late to score at Windsor last time and he's got a good apprentice on board. Has to be respected.

POYLE VINNIE 3/5

POYLE toil. Fairly treated and conditions shouldn't bother him. Back to some sort of form over five furlongs on Tuesday but that trip seems to suit him better these days.

STAKE ACCLAIM 3/5

WELL done Stake. Solid form this since and done no favours by Upstaging last time. Easy to see him running well again.

GO FAR 3/5

PLEASE don't Go. Has plenty of course form and found the drop to five furlongs against him last time. Previous form fives him a squeak but this looks to competitive.

AL QAHWA 2/5

AL's no pal. Shock winner on debut for new yard on soft in May. Decent effort latest but good trainer is struggling for winners.

BRIAN THE SNAIL 2/5

DON'T shell out on Snail. Snapped up by Godolphin after winning both starts last season. Awful form since Pontefract win on return. Needs a big leap of faith to back him.

SIR DANCEALOT 3/5

DANCE moves. Smart juvenile last season and three-year-olds have a fine record in this race. Cracking effort when runner-up in Bunbury Cup but today's shorter trip is a concern.

HOOFALONG 1/5

LONG way off. Well beaten in this last year and well held on his belated return last week. Needs the new visor and hood combo to work some magic.

CLASSIC SENIORITY 2/5

SENIOR Service. Showed he can handle big fields when landing the Ayr Bronze Cup. Dual winner last month has shot him up the weights and he might be flying too high.
