BRIGHT FUTURE

Glorious Goodwood 2017 – Barraquero and Endless Time gave William Buick a quick double at Goodwood

Brian Meehan's colt handled the step up in class with ease as he got the better of Nebo and Cardsharp who ran a good third under a penalty on the Sussex Downs

BARRAQUERO ran out an impressive winner of the Qatar Richmond Stakes at Goodwood on Thursday.

Having finished behind Expert Eye on debut, he followed that up with a six-length win on his second start.

He more than coped with the step up in class at Goodwood as he went clear of his rivals in the final stages.

Nebo chased him home in second with Cardsharp putting in a good effort under his penalty in third.

Winning jockey Buick said: “I was impressed with him there, I rode him first time out behind the horse who won the Vintage earlier in the week and then he won at Chepstow.

“We got a nice bit of cover from the wind. It’s always a concern if they’ll handle the ground and he’d prefer it better, but he’s got a lot of gears and is a good two-year-old.

Buick eventually found daylight on Endless Time and she flew home to win by a neck.

Buick said: “She travels very well and in the Yorkshire Cup I might have got there too soon.

“Charlie just said ride a race and let it unfold, but it got a bit congested. She got herself organised and went through the ground really well.

“On her day she’s pretty good, there’s very few in training that deserve to win a Group 1 more than her.”
