Glorious Goodwood tips – Templegate’s racing tips for all of ITV’s races at Goodwood on Saturday, August 5

The final day of Glorious Goodwood comes under the spotlight as Templegate tries to find a host of winners at the Sussex track

GOODWOOD

1.50 - ON ITV

FEEL the Heat in the Stewards' Sprint.

This is a race for horses that missed the cut for the Stewards' Cup. SCORCHING HEAT was miles off making that contest and he looks nicely weighted for this.

He's been placed in all four starts since making a winning return at Salisbury in May.

His neck second to The Feathered Nest at Newmarket last time is decent form and he's seems at his best on soft ground.

Six Strings came home well from way back at Hamilton last month. It's easy to see this big field suiting him.

Pettochside likes this track but he looks a bit high in the weights at present.

Gin In The Inn and Tommy G both have each-way claims.

2.25 - ON ITV

GET the Point.

BLAKENEY POINT beat subsequent Northumberland Plate hero Higher Power at Kempton in the spring and he shown plenty of promise since.

He moved really well before the fast ground found him out over course and distance in May and he got too far back from a wide draw last time.

There's much more in his favour today.

Sir Michael Stoute's Shraaoh has been threatening to win a race like this but he ran a shocker on soft ground last season.

Consistent stablemate Mainstream has been edging up the weights without winning. He needs the step up in distance to unlock some improvement but I'm not convinced.

I prefer Stoute's third runner Platitude. He was runner-up in a Royal Ascot handicap on easy ground last season and he should be spot on after a couple starts this term.

Getback in Paris struck over course and distance in June. There's little doubt this is a tougher race.

MOUNT MORIAH might be hard to conquer.

He made the running when winning on soft ground at Newbury on is return in May.

Different tactics were employed when he stormed clear to strike at Ascot last month but the lack of pace in today's field gives him a golden opportunity to dominate.

He makes the jump from handicaps but he's certainly worth a shot at this level.

Crystal Ocean has some decent form in the book. He was third behind Permian in both the Dante and Royal Ascot's King Edward VII Stakes. But a steady early pace would trouble him.

Khalidi finished a place in front of Crystal Ocean when runner-up at Ascot.

He won a Listed contest over track and trip in May but the softer ground is his worry.

3.35 - ON ITV

I'M getting all RAUCOUS ahead of the Stewards' Cup.

William Haggas' hope was third in this race 12 months ago and he went on to finish third behind smart Shalaa in an Ascot Group 3 on soft ground in the autumn.

The cash came for him in the Wokingham. He was third home of the stands' side group despite a troubled passage and the race again failed to fall right for him when fourth in a Group 3 last time.

He's fairly treated and champion jockey Jim Crowley rides Goodwood as well as anyone.

Projection was a little unlucky when fifth in the consolation for this race last year. A high draw probably cost him the Wokingham when beaten less than a length in third.

It's easy to see him running well.

Outback Traveller landed last year's Wokingham on easy ground. The mid-week rain has given him a fine chance and he's got a visor on for the first time.

Shanghai Glory signed off last season with a Listed win. He was last in the Wokingham on his return to action but the softer conditions make him interesting at tasty odds.

4.10

TAP into BATHSHEBA BAY.

Richard Hannon's hope put his experience to good use when touched off by smart prospect Red Mist at Sandown last time.

Stall 14 might put some off but with so many unraced horses he should be able to get across to grab a decent position.

Stablemate Rogue has twice run well and looks one of the main dangers. Ascot runner-up Peacher Man and unraced Dee Ex Bee are others to keep an eye on.

4.45

TAAMOL should put the bookies in the sticky stuff.

He showed he's better than a handicapper when landing a Newmarket Listed contest on easy ground in May.

The Jersey Stakes was a bit hot for him last time but there's no doubt he didn't have conditions to suit him and he also found plenty of trouble. I'm expecting this to pan out better.

Battered was disappointing at York last week. He really should have run much better than a well-beaten fifth.

William Haggas has swapped cheekpieces for blinkers but it's hard to get excited about his chances after that effort.

I'm much more worried about course-and-distance winner Aventinus.

Templegate's Glorious Goodwood tips

1.50 Goodwood - Scorching Heat

2.25 Goodwood - Blakeney Point

3.00 Goodwood - Mount Moria

3.35 Goodwood - Raucou

4.10 Goodwood - Bathsheba Bay

4.45 Goodwood - Taamol

5.20 Goodwood - Balmoral Castle

5.20

BALMORAL CASTLE looks a good place to end Glorious Goodwood.

He's nicely treated and returned to form following a two-month break when third behind Fire Tree at Ascot last time.

I've been impressed with his jockey Pierre-Louis Jamin and he looks to be in with a great shout in an open race.

Born To Be Alive has the assistance of top apprentice Clifford Lee. He could easily be well weighted but I generally like to side with experienced horses in races like this.

Magic City, Interconnection and Storm Ahead all have some sort of chance.

NEWMARKET

2.05 - ON ITV

TO ETERNITY should give the bookies a poisoned Chalice Stakes.

She hasn't run for nearly a year but it's hardly a worry with John Gosden doing the training. Her form last season was very promising.

She was second to smart Abingdon in the Listed Galtres Stakes at York last summer and she should be even better this year.

Isabel De Urbina wasn't good enough to play a hand in the Oaks but she showed she's up to this sort of level when runner-up in a course-and-distance Listed race last month.

That was a fair effort but this is more competitive.

Pleasant Surprise won nicely at Doncaster last time. She's got plenty of potential and shouldn't have a bother with the easier ground.

Ebbesbourne was brushed aside at Newbury last time but the step up in trip should suit her.

FEEL the Love.

PARAMOUNT LOVE made a promising debut on easy ground and she's since twice run well.

The handicapper could have given Richard Fahey's filly more weight for her handicap debut and she has cheekpieces on for the first time.

Stablemate Queen Penn is not far behind. Her neck second to Tajaanus at this track in May was a smart effort and she is another that looks nicely treated.
Tig Tog has some nice form. But she's been held up in her races so far and those tactics are not ideal at this track.
