ECLIPSE day is always a huge occasion and it's no surprise the big Sandown meeting hits the main ITV channel Saturday with a fascinating renewal.

Let's get straight into it, with the 1.50pm at Sandown, the Group 3 Charge over 5f. The class act here is Muthmir, but he could be drawn better. I'll have a few quid each-way on GOLDREAM, who is well berthed in stall 5 and can bounce back from a below par effort at Royal Ascot for Robert Cowell.

The 2.25pm at Sandown is the Challenge Handicap over 1m. GREENSIDE has been a winning machine for Henry Candy and will be very hard to at least keep out the frame. At around 4-1, I'll go each-way from another good draw.

It's the Distaff at 3.00pm over 1m. Hopefully eight horses will go to post and STANDING ROCK could be decent for my pal Johnny G Gosden. She looked very promising when scoring at Newbury first time and can improve. For Listed class, these are not the best.

The big race is at 3.35pm over 1m2f, and I want to back EMINENT in the Eclipse. He was unlucky in the Derby but still a close fourth, and while his Guineas run needs to be improved on, this trip could be ideal. It would be a big success for Silvestre de Sousa who hopefully races prominently and kicks on early in the straight.

The ITV cameras are also at Haydock, where the 2.05pm is a handicap over 1m6f. I like top weight MISTER MANDURO, who was far from disgraced behind Stradivarius at Royal Ascot. Mark Johnston is superb with these types of horses and the selection stays well so can reach a place despite the burden.

Matt Chapman's TV Tips

  • 1.50 Sandown - Goldream
  • 2.05 Haydock - Mister Manduro
  • 2.25 Sandown - Greenside
  • 2.40 Haydock - Abingdon
  • 3.00 Sandown - Standing Rock
  • 3.15 Haydock - Moonmeister
  • 3.35 Sandown - Eminent

Next up is the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks over nearly 1m4f at 2.40pm. ABINGDON looked superb when scoring at Pontefract last time, and while I'm not sure that form is as good as it seems, she still looked a happy horse for Sir Michael Stoute. She has every chance of scoring on official ratings.

Finally at Haydock, it's the Old Newton Cup over nearly 1m4f at 3.15pm. I like MOONMEISTER for Irish raider Tony Martin. My hope stays this distance very strongly and is well drawn to deliver a huge late thrust.

So best of luck on a superb weekend. Let's have a Yeeehaaa or two. You Betcha!
