Royal Ascot runner-up Headway set for Vintage Stakes run at Goodwood
The William Haggas-trained two-year-old finished second behind Rajasinghe in the Group Two Coventry Stakes and is now likely to tackle seven furlongs for the first time.
HEADWAY could be stepped up in trip in next month’s Qatar Vintage Stakes at Goodwood following his fine effort in defeat at Royal Ascot.
After finding only Rajasinghe too strong in the Coventry Stakes, connections of the William Haggas-trained juvenile are now considering moving him up to seven furlongs for a crack at the Group Two contest.

Harry Herbert, racing manager for owner the Royal Ascot Racing Club, said: “It was a hell of a performance by Headway in the Coventry.
“He is a lovely horse and physically he is doing well. He looked a picture in the paddock at Ascot and subsequently ran a blinder.
“Like all of these races, if you ran it again you would probably get a different result. He had his path checked and had to change course and was only beaten a short way.
“He will get further and we are probably looking at Goodwood with him now. He has come out of the race well, but William is concerned he had a hard race and he would rather go cautiously with him.
“He is not short of pace and there is the Richmond Stakes, but I suspect the Vintage over an easy seven there is something that might well be his bag.”
