Higher Power wins the Northumberland Plate for James Fanshawe after Gold Cup swerve
A week on from The Tin Man's contentious victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, James Fanshawe landed another big prize as Higher Power grabbed the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle to make it a week to remember for his trainer.
HIGHER POWER grabbed Northumberland Plate glory at Newcastle.
The 11-2 shot had half a length in hand passing the line to give trainer James Fanshawe his second win in the big race.

Josephine Gordon was runner-up on 7-1 hope Natural Scenery with massive gamble and 11-4 favourite Flymetothestars only third.
Seven days on from the yard’s classy sprinter The Tin Man winning a Royal Ascot Group 1, Fanshawe said: “Last week it was six furlongs and this race was two miles, we can do any trip!
“To win this race you need to have a bit of class and he’s got that. His second behind Big Orange last time showed how good he is.”
Winning jockey Tom Queally was thrilled to take another big Saturday prize.
He said: “It was a great performance. We thought about running him in the Ascot Gold Cup but James knew better.
“It’s nice to have this big handicap on my CV and getting Saturday winners makes people stand up and take notice.”
