IT'S A DON DEAL

Racing Tips – Templegate’s racing tips for all of ITV’s races on Saturday, March 25

Newbury and Kelso both come under the spotlight as Templegate tries to find a host of winners on a busy Saturday

HAVE a SHOTAVODKA to clear the head.

There’s no doubt David Pipe’s hope is nicely weighted and he seems to save his best for this track these days.

His third behind Just A Par in a course-and-distance veterans contest three weeks ago was a sound effort and it’s possible he prefers today’s better ground.

Vieux Lille is the youngest in the field and is the least exposed. He lost his place after whacking a fence halfway round at this track last month before staying on again. His jumping against some seasoned old boys could be his downfall.

Coolking has won both starts since joining Gary Moore. He’s shot up another stone in the weights and this is also a big jump in grade.

Charlie Longsdon’s Pete The Feat is a bit high in the weights but stablemate Killala Quay has claims if he can reproduce last month’s Doncaster veterans’ chase success.

2.25

STAY cool with AQUA DUDE.

He moved like a smart horse when narrowly denied by brave in-form Captain Redbeard at Haydock last month. That was only his fifth start over fences and he still looks nicely weighted on much of his form.

Icing On The Cake is also lightly raced. He fell into his course win in December and he failed to make much impression at Sandown last month.

O Maonlai was running well when smashing into the fifth-last at this track three weeks ago. He prefers more time between his races.

Casino Markets would have a chance if ready to go on his first start since finishing third behind top-class Fox Norton in October.

Warriors Tale and Ut Majeur Aulmes are others in with a shout.

FERGAL O’BRIEN has had a magical season and he looks to have another ace up his sleeve in WIZARD’S SLIABH.

She won a bumper and novices’ hurdle before running Tara View close at Ludlow. My fancy is weighted to reverse that form with Alan King’s hope and there was nothing wrong with her Wawick second to Ms Parfois last time. The likely strong pace should help Wizard’s Sliabh.

Copper Kay hasn’t quite lived up to her smart bumper form over hurdles. But she’s another who like a decent gallop to aim at.

Grand Turina is progressing nicely and Snow Leopardess could easily sharpen up for last month’s Doncaster effort.

It’s impossible to know what to make of French raider It’s Jennifer.

THIS is a Don deal.

DON BERSY has rattled up a hat-trick of juvenile wins but I still think the handicapper could have been harsher.

His Warwick defeat of Dino Velvet – unlucky not be involved in the finish in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham – is decent form. He again looked in need of today’s longer trip at Haydock and only a big step forward from something lower down the weights will stop him stretching his winning streak.

Night Of Sin is also on a roll. He’s got a great attitude but tends to pull hard. I’ve no doubt Don Bersy has achieved more.

Deauville Crystal is the one I fear lurking at the bottom of the weights. He should appreciate the longer trip and his trainer Nigel Hawk is in great form.

TEO VIVO is in the form of his life.

Despite reaching 10 years old he put in a personal best when following up his course-and-distance success with a victory at Newcastle. With the testing ground in his favour he is a good bet to complete the hat-trick.

Runswick Royal is the big danger. He was only nudged up a couple of pounds for his Ayr victory over 2m4f and he is still well handicapped on his chase form. The drop in distance might not be ideal as he doesn’t do much when he hits the front.

Cup Final has some smart form in the book but it’s hard to be confident he’ll be at the top of his game on his first start since leaving Nicky Henderson for Ben Haslam.

Templegate's TV Tips

  • 1.50 Newbury - Shotavodka
  • 2.05 Kelso - Teo Vivo
  • 2.25 Newbury - Aqua Dude
  • 2.40 Kelso - Seeyouatmidnight
  • 3.00 Newbury - Wizard's Sliabh
  • 3.15 Kelso - Yala Enki
  • 3.35 Newbury - Don Bersy

2.40

THE time is right for SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT.

He was a smart novice chaser last season but flopped behind Cue Card in the Betfair Chase after beating Bristol De Mai in a Carlisle match on his comeback. Today’s testing conditions hold no fears and he’s well treated over hurdles.

Reve De Sivola is another who will love the heavy ground. He’s not as good as he was but won’t be easy to pass if he’s allowed to set his own pace out in front. That might not be easy with 14-year-old Knockara Beau in the field.

Big River has been progressing well. His Haydock second to Dadsintrouble last month was a fine effort and we certainly haven’t seen the best of him.

Eminent Poet and Bryden Boy both arrive in form and neither can be ruled out.

3.15

YALA ENKI should grind this out from the front.

He loves testing ground and he was smart over hurdles. There was a lot to like about his British chase debut win at Haydock before Christmas. His two subsequent efforts have come behind Grand National hope Definitly Red and there’s no doubt this will be easier.

Baywing caused a shock in the Grade 2 Towton at Wetherby last month. If that’s to be believed he would have a chance but he has shot up 15lb.

Seldom Inn bolted up at this track three weeks ago and he might be more of a danger. He has blown hot and cold in the past but a repeat of his latest run would see him involved in the finish.
