Racing Tips – Top Tipster Steve Mullen’s best horse racing selections for Sunday, March 19

Steve Mullen guides you through Sunday's racing from Carlisle and Ffos Las

Ffos Las racecourse

CARLISLE

2.15

FATTSOTA switches back to hurdles after a couple of quiet efforts on the all-weather but this is much more his game these days.

He was last seen finishing a solid second at Ayr after winning with a bit in hand at Musselburgh. There should be more to come and the soft ground won’t be a problem.

2.45

GINO TRAIL hasn’t done a lot wrong this season and even when he hasn’t won he’s run well. That was the case at Warwick last time where he was second in a Grade 2 over this trip.

He is best with some give in the ground and should be able to go from the front in this small field.

3.20

MODULUS comes here looking for a hat-trick of wins and has every chance of getting it. He kept digging deep to fight off his challengers to score at Sedgefield last time and winning there bodes well for this stamina-sapping track. He gets on well with his young rider and they should go close.

3.55

CLOUDY TOO won the Peter Marsh Chase at his best and has plenty of decent form over this distance. He’s also won here before and won’t mind the ground, indeed the softer the better for him.

He’s a lot lower in the weights than his peak and should be competitive in this company.

4.25

LORD BALLIM should be much too good for these rivals having battled on to beat a better field here last time out. The ground was better that day but he’s equally at home when it’s testing and a 6lb rise in the weights looks more than fair.

5.00 - Mullen's star bet
CARLTON RYAN finishes his races better than he starts them and he came home like a tank to score at Fakenham last time out. He stays well and likes soft ground so there’s no reason why he can’t strike again.
