Racing Tips – How to bet £10 on Saturday with Templegate’s TV Tenner
Fancy a bet on today's ITV races at Kempton, Lingfield and Newcastle? Our tipster guides you through the best way to spend £10
I’VE never been much of a dancer.
No matter what the music my moves were always the same. It didn’t matter whether it was a bit of Bon Jovi, Beastie Boys or Bonnie Tyler – the rhythm was never right.
Even when the ‘erection section’ came around the unfortunate lady – usually the one who had drunk the most Woodpecker cider – was moved round the floor a bit like how a JCB shifts bales of hay.
I remember one particular night of throwing myself around some Young Farmers’ disco – probably dangerously close to the Forest Of Dean - when my style was described as ‘double shuffle’.

I took it as a compliment at the time. Today I’m expecting my style to finally become the latest fashion because DOUBLE SHUFFLE (3.35 Kempton) must have a great chance in the Betbright Chase.
His trainer Tom George won this race twice with grand grey Nacarat and I’m sure he’s kept this fella for this prize since he struck over today’s course and distance at Christmas.
Double Shuffle always looked likely to improve for the step up to three miles. Now he’s proved this is what he wants he should keep improving. Much like my dancing.
I’m going to lob him in a Trixie as part of my Saturday tenner’s worth. My banker is in one of the televised Flat races on the sand.
Templegate's Racing Tips - How to Spend £10
- £1.50 Trixie: Pretend (2.05 Lingfield), Capitaine (3.00 Kempton) , Double Shuffle (3.35 Kempton)
- £2 e/w: Evening Hush (1.50 Kempton)
PRETEND (2.05 Lingfield) found more trouble than a tipsy cider drinker at a Young Farmers’ party when only fifth behind Lancelot Du Lac in a six-furlong Listed contest three weeks.
He was still only beaten a length. Granted better luck he should win.
The final leg of the bet – and I’m going for a £1.50 win Trixie costing £6 – is back over the jumps.
CAPITAINE (3.00 Kempton) was no match for Colin Tizzard’s hot prospect Finian’s Oscar in the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown last time.
I was surprised he was ridden behind the pace given how impressive he was from the front at Ascot on his previous start.
Perhaps the testing ground sparked the change of plan but I’m sure he’ll be asked to make the running again today – especially as he doesn’t face much competition for the pace-setter’s role. With the track and going in his favour he will take some catching.
That’s six quid down and for the other four spots I’m going to do something I don’t usually do. Nope, it’s not a good few belters on the jukebox so I can hone my shuffle – it’s an each-way bet.
It’s not my style to take the safety first approach but I’m sure this is the right way to go with EVENING HUSH (1.50 Kempton).
She is another front-runner and a smart one at that. Her first two hurdles starts were most impressive and she probably went a shade too fast considering the testing ground when runner-up to Triumph Hurdle favourite Defi Du Seuil at Chepstow on Welsh National day.
This track should suit and, although there are some other pace pushers in the field, they will do well to lay up with Evan Williams’ flyer.
Charli Parcs has a sky-high reputation but the hot favourite would not want to give Evening Hush any rope. She might just have this tied up if they do.
Isn’t that a decent way to spend a tenner? You Betcha.
