SANDOWN TIPS

1.40
CLENI WELLS and Chietan’s Choice had a good battle at Kempton last week and, despite a 7lb swing at the weights, Martin Hill’s six-year-old can come out on top again. He was always pulling out more when required last time and the winning margin of just under two lengths was decisive enough. The ground was similar so there’s no other reason why the form should turn around.
2.10
POUGNE BOBBI looks the one to beat after walking away with a similar contest to this at Ludlow last time out. He just skipped away from his rivals there and should have no problem shouldering a penalty. His rider’s 7lb claim means he’s effectively off the same mark in any case. He likes soft ground and this slight drop in trip won’t be a problem in testing conditions.
2.40
COLIN’S SISTER had no problem stepping up to Listed grade to record a hat-trick of wins at Haydock last time out and this next level holds no fears. She had six lengths in hand crossing the line there and it could have been a lot more. Conditions are ideal and she looks capable of plenty more.

Mullen's Best Bet

Sandown 3.15: Troika Steppes

3.15
TROIKA STEPPES looks the answer to this race for military riders. He’s a good rider for an amateur and was a solid fourth at Taunton last time out. He was an impressive winner in this class at Cheltenham before Christmas and is much more consistent than most of these rivals.
3.45
EARLY DU LEMO is taking a fair drop in class after being pitched in at Grade 2 level for his British debut at Cheltenham last month. He was marked down as a hot prospect in his native France after winning a novices’ event by half the track. This looks a more sensible assignment in conditions that should be ideal.
4.15
KNIGHT OF NOIR is still getting the hang of things over fences but took a big step forward from his debut when third at Hereford last time out. He still has a fair gap to bridge but should love this soft ground and is definitely open to improvement.
4.45
DUN BAY CREEK came back from almost six months off to win convincingly at Newton Abbot last time out. That was over slightly longer than today but this trip will take plenty of getting in the conditions. Trainer Alan King is going well and an opening handicap mark of 118 looks fair enough.
