CATTERICK TIPS
1.15
ALFREDANDNOBELL has a penalty for winning at Wetherby last time but that looks a better race than this and he could be up to defying it. Ground conditions were similar and he has an obvious liking for this trip. Given that was only his second spin over timber, there could be improvement to come too.
1.45
SAM SPINNER has two wins and a second to his name from just three hurdles runs and has every chance of adding to that excellent record. He was seven lengths clear of his rivals over course and distance on New Year’s Day and this race doesn’t look any tougher.
2.15
CAPRICE D’ANGLAIS put in a rare poor effort when fifth at Leicester last time on his bid for a hat-trick of wins. We should treat that as a blip at this stage because he has looked a rising star earlier in winning easily at Hereford and Huntingdon. He likes this trip and is suited by some give in the ground too.

FORTY CROWN isn’t the easiest of rides but he got on well with today’s 5lb claimer when beaten a neck here last time out. That was over this distance which he saw out with few problems. He had earlier won with 13 lengths in hand at Kelso and is only 3lb higher that his last solid effort. The cheekpieces are on for the first time today which could also be a plus.
3.20
TWO SMOKIN BARRELS continues to defy the handicapper and ran her best race yet when winning at Kelso last time out. She’s been shoved up another 7lb for that but it wouldn’t have made any difference last time and it shouldn’t this. Soft ground is a bonus and she is blessed with plenty of stamina, which is a plus around here.
3.55
BLACK NARCISSUS has dropped to just 7lb higher than the mark that saw her win three on the bounce last season. She put in her best effort of this term when second to a decent type at Wincanton last time out. That was over 2m4f but this longer trip holds no fears and she should go close.
4.25
ASK PADDY is taking a fair drop in trip after running well at Wetherby last time but not quite getting home. He was bang in contention turning for home so this distance should be right up his street. He looks on a fair mark and has no problem with some cut in the ground.
