Chaos at Cartmel as horse Peltwell crashes through barrier forcing terrified crowd to flee before smashing into cars

CHAOS ensued at Cartmel this afternoon as horse Peltwell crashed through the barrier in a terrifying incident.

Peltwell was competing in the 14:29 Banks Lyon Jewellers Female Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle when the horrifying moment occurred.

She got unsettled at the first, unseating her rider and tearing towards the barrier.

The terrified crowd watched on as the Neil Mulholland-trained horse crashed through the barrier and towards parked vehicles.

Peltwell came to a crashing halt after hitting a small truck parked beside an ambulance.

Fears grew for the poor horse folowing the horrifying incident.

Thankfully she was able to get up and appeared OK.

Peltwell received immediate attention after the awful incident.

Fans took to Twitter to express their relief at the horse surviving with just a cut for her troubles.

One wrote: "Thank goodness, it looked awful."
