Moonlight Magic on song for Leopardstown
Bolger's three-year-old looked to be a smart colt in the making when winning the Derrinstown but he failed to fire in the Derby and Bolger thinks only now is he back to his best
JIM BOLGER is expecting a big run from Moonlight Magic in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.
The Godolphin-owned colt looked set for a big season after landing the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at the same venue in May but then failed to beat a rival home in the Investec Derby at Epsom and was soundly beaten in the Irish equivalent.
There was more promise in his third in the Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh last month and Bolger believes he could be coming back to his best.
Bolger said: "I think I'm in with a chance. Moonlight Magic hasn't lived up to his early promise so far but conditions will suit him at the weekend and it's possible he didn't see out the mile and a half in the Irish Derby.
"That being the case, I'm hopeful 10 furlongs will suit and he seems to be at the top of his game, it's a race I'm really looking forward to."
