Dettori has been closing in on his milestone and has taken time out to recharge his batteries and get a pep talk from his family to hit his goal
FRANKIE DETTORI is hunting a double slice of glory this weekend - after getting a pep talk from his old man.
The Italian ace needs just TWO more wins to reach his magic milestone of 3,000 career winners in the UK.
And then on Sunday he will be in France to bid for more Group 1 success on crack miler Galileo Gold.
Life really has been a beach for Dettori this week.
He revealed: "I'm back in Sardinia, relaxing in the sun with my dad and seeing some old friends. "I'm confident when I come back I'll get the job done. When I get a nice tan the winners always roll in!" Ladbrokes ambassador Dettori, 45, will return to the saddle at Newmarket on Friday night before riding hot fancy Nemoralia in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.
He said: "I want get to 3,000 winners as soon as possible.
"I'd love to do it at my hometown course on Friday night - but as long as I do it sometime this weekend I'll be a happy man!"
If he does hit his target, Dettori will have an extra buzz for the ride on Galileo Gold in the Jacques Le Marois at Deauville. The colt is said to have 'worked brilliantly' yesterday.
Al Shaqab racing manager Harry Herbert said: "Hugo couldn't be happier. The horse has thrived on his racing and is in terrific form."
Galileo Gold will meet improving Ribchester again.
Richard Fahey's colt was a short head behind Galileo Gold in the Sussex.
Fahey said: "He came out of the Goodwood race better than he has ever done.
He is just getting stronger all the time."
