JONBON JOVI

Ex-Man Utd shareholder and billionaire Easysland owner JP McManus pays record fee for potential racing superstar Jonbon

RACING giant JP McManus has splashed the cash to land Douvan's younger brother Jonbon.

The hammer was brought down at a massive £570,000 after Jonbon streaked away with a win just last week.

Douvan was an eight-time Grade 1 winner for Willie Mullins, including multiple Cheltenham Festival wins.

And arguably only injury prevented him from dominating at the top table for longer and further afield.

His full-brother Jonbon was always going to come with a big reputation, but he enhanced that with a breathtaking 15-length win in a point-to-point at Dromahane.

It makes him the most expensive point-to-pointer to ever be sold at auction.

And billionaire JP McManus - who was once one of the biggest shareholders in Manchester United - was forced to pay top whack to ensure he will run in his famous green and gold silks when next seen.

Businessman Anthony Barney eventually gave in at the Goff November Sales.

It's not yet clear who will train Jonbon.

But given that taking the horse back over to Ireland would cost a whack in taxes, it's likely he will stay in England.

That would make Lambourn trainer Nicky Henderson the likeliest spot for Jonbon.

The four-year-old will likely start off in novice hurdles this season and will be one to watch down the line when he goes chasing over fences.

The new record smashed the previous one that stood at £480,000.
