Ian Poulter owns an incredible 12 Ferraris but multi-millionaire dare not drive them because they are ‘brilliant investments’

IAN POULTER has been clocking up the miles on his £2million Ferrari 288 GTO — but insists he still has plenty left in the tank for golf.

Fresh home from taking his luxury motor on a road trip around the south of France, Poulter plans to play seven tournaments in the next eight weeks, starting with the Irish Open which begins today.

The Ryder Cup hero, 43, owns 12 Ferraris, maintaining they are “brilliant investments”, which explains why he is normally reluctant to put them through their paces.

Poults said: “They look fantastic and it’s difficult to just see them sitting in the garage when they are meant to be driven.

“But they are an asset and appreciating all the time. I look at them as works of art. It was nice to take one out and let it stretch its legs a bit though.

“It did very well, I have to say, especially for a car that’s 35 years old and only travelled 2,400 miles.

“I put another 600 miles on the clock — and to enjoy three or four days away with it was great.

“I didn’t reach top speed because I had my wife, Katie, sitting next to me and she’s not the best of passengers.

“I had to be careful around those mountain roads — it wouldn’t be good slipping off the side!

"But we did open it up a bit on the odd occasion. “Now I’m ready to put a few more miles on my own clock!”
