Spiranac played the tournament and then stayed behind for extra practice the next day to work on her swing.

But she lost her cool after another tee shot went badly wrong.

Speaking on her Playing a Round podcast, she said: "The format for the Derek Jeter - the first two days it's a scramble with partners and sponsors and the last day is a celebrity shootout.

"I was paired with Derek Jeter and was very excited about it.

"I played absolute garbage. I was so embarrassed. I couldn't hit a shot.

"I literally topped a three wood on 18 in front of Derek Jeter. It was bad.

'I went out and played the next day because I had some events coming up and I really needed to get my game in a good place.

"I was really struggling. I was playing really bad. I was two over par at the time and, all of a sudden, wires got crossed, and I went ballistic."

Paige added: "I got onto the 17th tee and I snapped the s**t out of this ball. It just went straight left off the tee, which is my nemesis shot.

"I gripped that club, I did a full turn and threw it as hard as I possibly could.

"It went farther than the ball, 40/50 yards, bounced off the cart path, into the s**t and I just stormed off.

"I was so p***ed. I don't remember the last time I've been that mad.

"I have a history of throwing clubs and breaking clubs, it doesn't happen that often but it does happen.

"It hasn't happened in a while. I had a full blown mental breakdown."

New York Yankees legend Jeter hosted the event in the Bahamas to raise money for his foundation.

Jeter said on social media that the event contributed more than $1million.

And Spiranac, who has over three million followers on Instagram, had only kind words to say about the Yankees great.

She said: "Derek Jeter is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. I think with a lot of celebrities and athletes, they're very full of themselves.

"You need to have that confidence to be successful, you need to be very narcissistic and cocky. He was the exact opposite.

"I would say that 90 per cent of the time he was asking about my career and life and asking so many questions which is something that doesn't really happen when you're around celebrities and athletes."
