Ryder Cup star Patrick Reed’s family feud boils over on Facebook as sister accuses him of being ‘horrible stranger’
Team USA member has little to do with relatives but war of words exploded after £1.1m Barclays win
RYDER CUP star Patrick Reed's mysterious family feud has boiled over on Facebook as his sister accused him of being a "selfish, horrible stranger".
The eighth best player in the world had just picked up a cheque for £1.1million after winning the PGA Tour's Barclays championship when sibling Hannah slammed him on social media.
Reed, who has cut all ties with his family and allegedly cheated while playing golf in college, was accused of always playing the victim in a fall-out that has threatened to overshadow his career.
His dad Bill was said to be overly tough on the young star - but Patrick's wife Justine has, according to Hannah, tried to tarnish him further.
And it was after Justine's comments that Hannah felt she had to "set the story straight".
She wrote on a Facebook post sent to the PGA Tour: "I have sat back and watched the numerous and disgusting accusations his wife, mother-in-law and everyone now associated as his family have made.
"Patrick is not the same person he used to be.
"He accused me of faking two kidney surgeries to get him back into my life, completely disowned me and never wishes me happy birthday.
"This is not a brother anymore, but a selfish, horrible stranger and it's heartbreaking.
"There was never, ever any abuse mentally or physically, abuse of alcohol, or fist fights in the parking lot because he had a bad round.
"The fact that Patrick is allowing his new family to sat that is insane.
"It is devastating seeing my parents hurt and suffer from what is being posted about them."
That all came after Justine - who once allegedly got Bill and wife Jeannette kicked out of the US Open while following Patrick in his second round - put across her side of the story.
She wrote: "You, nor anyone else know anything about Patrick and I or our private lives.
"His parents verbally and physically abused him for most of his life, abused alcohol and would get in fist fights with him in parking lots after bad rounds.
"Patrick was seen as a 'meal ticket'. Not my words, his.
"This is no sob story, we don't have time for that. This is the truth."
The case gets even murkier when a woman purporting to be Patrick's aunty, Darlene Monahan, refutes Justine's allegations.
She wrote: "What a joke. Patrick Reed is my nephew and I supported him along the way with his parents and grandparents.

"There was absolutely no abuse, physically, verbally or mentally in the family.
"His parents sacrificed everything for him to follow his dream of being a pro golfer."
Reed played his way into Davis Love's Ryder Cup side thanks to a season that included 11 top-tens and earnings of more than £4m so far.
However he is no stranger to controversy.
In November 2014 he apologised for a gay slur he made following a three-putt in an event in Shanghai.
And he did not endear himself to fans in the last Ryder Cup when he put his finger to his lips urging them to be quiet after holing a putt for America.
