Jordan Spieth ends four-year slump by winning Valero Texas Open days before first Major at Augusta
JORDAN SPIETH has ended a four-year wait for a PGA tour title with victory at the Valero Texas Open - just days before the Masters begins.
The 27-year-old, who had not won a tournament since winning the Open in 2017, will be hoping to repeat the success at Augusta this weekend.
Spieth held off a challenge by fellow American Charley Hoffman to win by two shots in Texas - his home state - and claim his 12th PGA Tour title.
It ends a remarkable drought for the three-time major winner, who was relieved to get that elusive win.
Spieth said: "This is a monumental win for me. It's one that I've certainly thought about for a long time.
"It's been a long road. I never really doubted myself that I'd get back to where I wanted to go but when you lose confidence a lot of times it's hard to see the positives going forward and I just kept my head down.
"I owe a lot of people thanks. It's a team and a team effort and I've been blessed to work with the best in the world at everything they do."
Spieth was identified as a potential successor to Tiger Woods when he won both the Masters and US Open as a 21-year-old in 2015.

The former world No1 recovered from that disappointment to win the 2017 Open at Royal Birkdale - a victory that suggested he would be a force for years to come.
Having nearly fallen out of the world's top 100 at the beginning of this year, Spieth is now ranked No.38 and ready to fight at Augusta again.
