The Open 2016: Jordan Spieth admits he needs seven pints after struggling to make the cut at Royal Troon
Two-time Major winner said howling wind and rain wanted to make him turn to drink as chance for third Major slips by
JORDAN SPIETH said he needed a few pints in the clubhouse after battling through "crap" conditions at Troon.
The two-time Major champion faced a fight just to make the cut in the tournament he came so close to winning last year.
And he said the driving wind and rain was so tough he wished he had been playing around with mates.
Spieth said: "You wish your score didn't matter when you play in this. You wish this was just a round with your buddies where you go into the clubhouse and have one or seven pints afterwards.
"I mean, these conditions are all right right now, which is a bit of a bummer. By the time you get to 18 you're like, where's the crap we just played in?
"Because you want the people behind you to experience it. But yeah, it's true."
Spieth made a double bogey five on the card-wrecking Postage Stamp and finished two rounds on four over, likely enough to make the cut on the number.
He admitted his chances of staging a miraculous comeback to catch leader Phil Mickelson some 14 strokes ahead are all but over.
And though he did not lay blame on the Scottish summer, Spieth said he could not remember the last time he played in anything so testing.
He added: "What we had on 16 tee when I looked up and you see the sheets of water moving sideways - legitimately sheets of water moving sideways - if I've played in that, it's been over here on a practise round day or I can't remember.
"I can't remember anything that significant. I can't remember seeing the wind move a ball that much."
