DUSTIN JOHNSON was branded the "dumbest world No 1 of all time" after accidentally slamming his driver into an advertising board.
The 2016 US Open champion was in the middle of a practice round when he made the hilarious mistake.
To be fair to Johnson, who has been top of the world rankings for a total of 91 weeks, the hoarding was very close to the tee.
But still it did not stop fans from finding his error side-splitting on social media.
A clip was posted ahead of the first round of the PGA Tour's Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii which showed American Johnson, 35, making a practice swing.
The first one is fine but on the second he catches the board and the impact makes him drop the club immediately following the almighty thwack.
Rory McIlroy was one of the first to comment with two laughing face emoji.
But a number of responses were a bit more withering.
One wrote: "Is he the dumbest world No 1 of all time?"
Another posted: "Good thing he gets those clubs for free."
A fellow user said: "Not the brightest."
One comment read: "Dumbest man on tour strikes again."

Things did not get much better for Johnson - a two-time winner of the event - in the first round.
He racked up three penalty shots during a round which needed a 20ft putt for par on the 18th to see him shoot a one-under 72.
That leaves him six behind early leader Joaquin Niemann from Chile, who made seven birdies and no bogeys on the Kapalua Plantation Course.
