NORWICH have entered the race to sign Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater.
Brighton wanted the midfielder on a season-long loan deal, as revealed by SunSport.
The 29-year-old did not play a single game for Blues last season after featuring in last season's Community Shield.
It is now set to depend on who can pay the most out of Prem new-boys Norwich or Graham Potter's new-look Seagulls.
Chelsea preferably would sell the player as boss Frank Lampard wants to give more game time to youngsters Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in central midfield.
Norwich boss Daniel Farke has brought in five new players but spent little under £1million this summer.
The Canaries are crying out for some Premier League experience, particularly in midfield.
Drinkwater would fit the bill.
Norwich, who are trying to complete a £7m deal for striker Jordan Rhodes from Sheffield Wednesday, have already signed West Ham full-back Sam Byram.
Rochdale midfielder Daniel Adshead came in for £300,000.
Striker Josip Drmic and keeper Ralf Fahrmann were signed on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke respectively, using German Farke's links with his home country.
