BRIGHTON have launched a bid for Chelsea's out-of-favour midfielder Danny Drinkwater.
The busy Seagulls, who have completed the £22million club record signing of Bristol City defender Adam Webster, have now turned their attentions to Drinkwater.
New Albion chief Graham Potter wants the Blues man on a season-long loan deal to power up his engine room.
Chelsea would prefer to sell the 29-year-old, who did not play another game under then boss Maurizio Sarri having featured in last season's Community Shield.
Drinkwater has made just five Premier League starts in two years at Chelsea after joining in a £35m deal from 2016 Premier League champions Leicester.
That works out at nearly £700,000 per Prem game.
Drinkwater has had a troubled Chelsea career and was hit by problems off the pitch when he was caught drink-driving earlier this year.
But Potter sees him as someone who can spark his new-look Brighton side.
The South Coast club sacked boss Chris Hughton after narrowly avoiding relegation and played some stale football.
Latest Chelsea transfer news
Drinkwater was left out of Chelsea's squad for their final pre-season friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach along with Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Despite the transfer ban, the Blues would like to sell the duo.
New boss Frank Lampard would prefer to give more game time to youngsters Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in central midfield.
