Benjamin Mendy reveals how Pep Guardiola’s WIFE convinced him to join Man City from Monaco
Left-back says there is 'nobody better' than Guardiola as a manager and claims City boss' wife was key in sealing Etihad switch
BENJAMIN MENDY has revealed that Pep Guardiola's wife held the key to his move to Manchester City from Monaco last summer.
While Mendy claimed there was 'nobody better' than Guardiola as a manager, he was keen to stress the importance of the role played by the Spaniard's spouse.
Mendy joined City in a £52million deal last summer but took his time over making the move.
It was Guardiola's personal touch that swayed Mendy however, he wrote in the .
Mendy said: "When I was considering signing with Man City last year, Pep and I started to message each other on WhatsApp.
"I was not only chatting with Pep, but also with his wife — because she was helping him with his French. With Pep, it felt like I was talking to family, not to a coach."

Mendy also lauded Guardiola's managerial nous, with the ex-Barcelona and Bayern manager having guided City to a record 100 points as they cruised to the Premier League title in 2017/18.
The French left-back, who played under Leonardo Jardim at Monaco and had five managers in three seasons at Marseille, said: "My life has been shaped by managers, maybe you’ve noticed. I think this is true for most footballers — for good and bad.
"For me, I have just been lucky to have played under some of the best. And there is nobody better than Pep.
"Of course, Pep is the kind of manager players always dream of playing for. But what I’ve learned about life from Pep has been more important than anything I’ve learned about football."
