Stoke agree sale £5.7m sale of Ramadan Sobhi to Huddersfield as Benik Afobe joins the Potters

Egypt international to make £5.7million switch that keeps him in the Premier League ahead of World Cup debut, with Wolves striker Afobe heading to Stoke

HUDDERSFIELD have snapped up Stoke's Egyptian World Cup winger Ramadan Sobhi for £5.7million.

The 21-year-old Cairo kid is currently in Russia preparing for his country’s first World Cup match for 28 years, against Uruguay in Yekaterinberg on Friday.

However the Terriers managed to complete the three-year-deal for the exciting young winger who scored three goals in 41 Premier League appearances and five cup games for the Potters since arriving from Al Ahly for £5million in July 2016.

"I'm very happy that we will be able to welcome Ramadan to the club. He's a real talent and has achieved a lot for a player who is only 21 years old," said Town boss David Wagner.

“We’re looking forward to working hard with Ramadan on the training pitch.”

In an exclusive interview with SunSport last month Sobhi hinted he could be off this summer, and was happy to put his future in Stoke’s hands following their relegation from the top flight.

“I’m just sad we made some great fans sad,” he said. “Being relegated to the Championship was not what anyone wanted.

"But this is what God wished and this is how it is. My contract has three years to run, Stoke will decide what happens next.”

Stoke wasted no time in putting the Sobhi cash to work as they swiftly finalised the £12million signing of Wolves striker Benik Afobe - less than a fortnight after Wolves had taken up an option to sign him from Bournemouth for £10million.

Afobe will join the Potters on an initial six-month loan, but with a clause inserted into the deal forcing Stoke to sign the DR Congo forward at the end of that period.
