Moyes, who took over in November, will soon be out of contract and he has his critics at the London Stadium.

But Argentine defender Zabaleta, 33, said: “David Moyes has done his job. He came to keep West Ham in the Premier League, to improve a bad situation, back in November.

"He has done the job. We will see what happens at the end of the season. We need to wait.

"Obviously, the players have no control over this and cannot make any decisions.

“Now, we want to finish the season on a high.

"It has not been a great season but we are only a few points from 10th position and if we have a good win on Sunday we can finish around there, depending on other results.”

Zabalata joined from Manchester City last summer and has one more year on his contract.

He said: “I have been enjoying it even though it has not been a great season. I enjoy West Ham.

"I am obviously not a long-term player as I only have one more year. Listen, I have played 36 games and if I play the next game it will be 37.

"I only missed one game and that was because I was suspended so it was injury free. I have found myself playing wing-back at 33 – it was not too easy!

"But I ran my heart out for the team this season.

"I came to enjoy my last few years in football in the strongest League in the world and so hopefully have one more good year at West Ham.”
