'NO FUCHS GIVEN'

Leicester’s title-winning mentality will help Foxes in Premier League relegation scrap, says defender Christian Fuchs

Austrian insists struggling champions will revert to their 'one game at a time' spirit as they bid to beat the drop

LEICESTER CITY defender Christian Fuchs insists the club are not looking over their shoulder at results around them in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

The former Austrian international is confident the Foxes will still be a top-flight outfit next year if they revert back to the 'one game at a time' mentality that they adopted in their title winning campaign.

"We don't really care about what is happening around us," revealed Fuchs.

"It's just about focusing and taking one game at a time. That's exactly how we approached things last season.

"We're know we are the only ones who can change something - we can change it on the pitch. Therefore we just focus on the next game.

"It doesn't matter how the other games end or how the other teams play, it's about us."

Leicester travel to the London Stadium on Saturday to take on a West Ham side with the fifth worst home record in the division, having lost six times in front of the Hammers' faithful this season.

The 30-year-old admits his side are feeling confident ahead of the trip.

"If we stick to the plan then I think we're also going to be successful at the weekend [against West Ham].

"We want to stay in the league, we want to maintain Premier League [status] and we will give everything to do so.

"We have nine more games and we see every one as a cup final. We don't take any free games."

Since Claudio Ranieri's departure the club have lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with convincing wins over Liverpool and Hull and set up a quarter-final tie with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Leicester City named Craig Shakespeare as first-team manager for the remainder of the season earlier this month after being impressed by the 'positive response' the 53-year old had inspired.

However, even though it's likely the Foxes will still be on the lookout for a full time replacement in the summer, Fuchs insists the players are not paying much attention to the speculation surrounding potential suitors.

"Obviously you realise what's been written but we have Craig Shakespeare now as our manager," he said.

"We're going to make the best of every situation and move on and move forward. Our goal is to be focused on the next game and get as many points out of it as possible."

Fuchs, who joined Leicester from FC Schalke 04 in 2015, is now helping youngsters aged between 12-16 to experience their own Leicester City-style fairytale through his Fox Soccer Academy.

The defender, who plans to make the switch to the USA at the end of his current contract at the King Power, gets his boots on to put the young players through their paces alongside his team of coaches almost every week.

"It's a lot of fun, we're trying to give the kids some new approaches to football and I think they're enjoying that," explained Fuchs.

"But, the most important thing is that they should have fun being out there on the pitch and I want to pass on my experience as a professional footballer.

"We want to offer football to anybody who loves the game and we want to develop their skills. Of course, when there's a talent, then why not help them approach a [professional] club."

Following the success of the project in the United States, his native Austria, and Leicester, Fuchs recently introduced the Fox Academy to Bracknell, Berkshire and has plans to expand further.
