Troy Deeney has been compared to Diego Maradona by Watford boss Walter Mazzarri
Hornets manager hails striker's ability and claims it reminds him of Argentina legend
TROY DEENEY has been compared to Diego Maradona by Watford boss Walter Mazzarri.
Deeney captains the Hornets against Manchester United today a week after a brilliant strike in the 4-2 win over West Ham.
And Watford boss Mazzarri is still purring at the ability his striker showed with his delicate lob at the London Stadium.
The Italian says only a few players in the world could have scored such a goal - and legendary Maradona is one of them.
Mazzarri said: "What Deeney did against West Ham was a great goal.
"Only a few players can do it and one of them was Maradona. It was incredible.
More from football
"What I ask from Deeney and the whole squad - but Deeney is captain - is continuity."
Deeney, 28, has spent six years at Watford after starting his career with midlands club Walsall.
Maradona was voted joint FIFA player of the 20th century alongside Pele, and captained Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986.
