PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG should resign as Arsenal captain after falling out of favour at the Emirates.
That’s the view of ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor, who himself gave up the captain’s armband after some poor decision-making.
A fuming Mikel Arteta left Auba out of his Gunners squad to face Southampton after deciding his skipper had let him down again by returning late from a trip abroad.
The 32-year-old started on the bench against Everton last Monday and Agbonlahor reckons it could be time for a change of leadership in North London.
He told : “I think Arteta’s handling him right
“Arteta played at a great level, he played not that long ago, so he’s not going to accept any player thinking they can do what they like and have their own rules.
“When I played at Aston Villa I gave up the captaincy. I was club captain and I went on holiday during an international break and got caught smoking shisha.
“As footballers we’re meant to be robots who aren’t allowed to do anything. I got a lot of heat for that so I gave up the armband.

"Maybe that’s something Aubameyang needs to do.”
Aubameyang’s case has not been helped by a photo of him getting a tattoo, which emerged just 24 hours before the 3-0 victory over Southampton.
There is no indication the striker was dropped because of the tattoo.
But Alexandre Lacazette was picked to lead the line against the Saints, with Arteta left to reveal Auba’s absence due to a ‘disciplinary breach’.
And pundit Agbonlahor says there are players among Arsenal's younger generation who may be more suited to the captain's job.
He added: “Maybe Aubameyang will look at himself and go ‘you know what, I don’t deserve to be captain of Arsenal.’
"Someone else like a Kieran Tierney, or maybe a younger lad like Bukayo Saka could.”
