Mark Clattenburg tattoo: Referee gets ink while on holiday in Spain to mark taking charge of Champions League and Euro 2016 finals

Prem's top whistle blower completed hat-trick of finals after taking charge of the FA Cup final of Europe's top matches

MARK CLATTENBURG has a decent claim to be the best referee in the world right now after scoring a hat-trick of finals that saw him officiate the FA Cup, Champions League and Euro 2016 finals.

The Premier League's top man in the middle has marked that impressive achievement - by getting tattoos while on holiday in Spain.

The 41-year-old, from Consett in Durham, is already tattooed and has to wear long sleeve shirts in the Prem for that reason.

While on holiday in Spain - Clattenburg has been spotted in the Marbella area - the ref got another pair of mementos.

The ink shows the Champions League trophy on his wrist with the words 'Final Milano 2016' and the Euro 2016 logo on the inside of his bicep.

Mick Mahon, who did the tattoo, wrote on her : "It's not every Sunday you get to tattoo the world's top football referee... Mark Clattenburg back for more!"

Clattenburg has long been seen by UEFA chiefs as one of the best referees in the world but has got a rawer deal on British soil.

He has been seen, somewhat, as anti-establishment by the Football Association, while several high profile incidents have blotted his copy book.

He was involved in a race row with Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi - who allegedly said he'd break the legs of the referee - and last season a red card for Chiekhou Kouyate drew negative criticism.

Clattenburg's tattoos have previously been an issue, as was the journey to an Ed Sheeran concert that brought a one-game ban.
