But at closer look, his face has been superimposed on Georginio Wijnaldum's body, who signed on at the club last week. The caption simply reads "hahaha".

Willems tweeted a picture of Wijnaldum holding up the Liverpool scarf on the day of his signing along with the caption "I wish you all the best at your new club my friend, we'll see each other again soon!"

The Reds have been linked with Willems this transfer window as they seek a replacement for Alberto Moreno.

Brad Smith is also close to joining Bournemouth in a £6million deal, leaving the Anfield club in need of defensive cover.

Willems and Wijnaldum, 25, played together for four years at PSV.

Newcastle signed Wijnaldum for £14.5m last summer but sold the midfield ace to Liverpool after they were relegated.

Wijnaldum revealed Jurgen Klopp was the key factor in his move.

Having spoken to the German manager, he said: "In that conversation he made me feel really good.

He gave me a lot of confidence because he said he liked my way of playing football.

"After that I had the feeling that I wanted to come to Liverpool."
