Bruce will step down from Tigers role after disappointment of missing out on coveted job as manger of Three Lions

STEVE BRUCE has sensationally quit as manager of Hull City.

The former Manchester United captain, 55, left the club frustrated at the lack of transfer activity after he returned the side to the Premier League.

The relationship between Bruce and vice-chairman Ehab Allam contributed to the decision.

With the Tigers up for sale Bruce has been left angered at the lack of incoming players - Hull have just 13 senior players fit with the new season set to start in just three weeks.

Michael Dawson, Allan McGregor, Alex Bruce and Moses Odubajo have all been injured in recent weeks, while key loan players Isaac Hayden and Chuba Akpom did not return to the club.

Crisis talks between Bruce and Allam on Thursday are said to have gone badly.

The commute from Birmingham was said to be getting him down while the Hull hierarchy were annoyed by him not telling them he had applied for the England job.

Bruce had been one of two final candidates to take over the England manager’s job vacated by Roy Hodgson after the disappointment of Euro 2016.

But that role has now been given to close friend Sam Allardyce.

Bruce’s departure could possibly see him replace Allardyce and return to Sunderland, although David Moyes appears to have already been lined up for that job.

Bruce, who took over at the KC Stadium in 2012, led the club to promotion via the play-offs in May, beating Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley Stadium.
