Premier League preview

Who is the best new Premier League boss, what is the transfer deal of the summer and who is doomed?

Our SunSport experts give their views on what we can expect from the hotly-anticipated season

AFTER Andy Murray’s Wimbledon triumph and Lewis Hamilton’s Silverstone glory, attention is turning to the Premier League.
With just 25 days to the big kick-off, SunSport brings you our guide to the mega-money deals that have been done by the 20 top clubs.
We list the targets they want to bring in by the time the window slams shut at the start of September.
It’s a transfer window that has been predicted to break the £1billion barrier and our team of crack reporters gives you their thoughts on what’s got them excited, the managers and players they cannot wait to see — and the clubs they fear for.

Charlie Wyett

BEST NEW BOSS: Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. Nice to have him back.
BEST TRANSFER: Fascinating to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic at United. But it could be tough for him.
GET HIM IN: Toni Kroos — but it would have to take a ridiculous offer for Real Madrid to think about it.
BIGGEST BUZZ: After Italy’s Euros performance, Chelsea fans can feel pleased over Antonio Conte.

Mark Irwin

BEST NEW BOSS: Ronald Koeman could get Everton to achieve their potential.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: Arsenal’s move for Jamie Vardy and the striker’s subsequent decision to stay with champions Leicester.
GET HIM IN: Paul Pogba would be a sensational signing.
IN TROUBLE: I fear Southampton might have suffered one body blow too many after losing another manager and so many star players.

Paul Jiggins

IN TROUBLE: Sunderland. After the Great Escape last season they may lose Sam Allardyce to the England job.
BIGGEST BUZZ: As a Millwall fan, it is my sad duty to say West Ham. A brand new stadium on the cheap.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: People asking why Ronald Koeman would go to Everton. The Toffees remain one of English football’s grand old ladies.

David Coverdale

BEST TRANSFER: Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. Pep acted swiftly to snap him up from Borussia Dortmund so he must have something about him.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: Ronald Koeman leaving Southampton for Everton.
GET HIM IN: Northern Ireland’s out-of-contract Euro 2016 keeper Michael McGovern.
BIGGEST BUZZ: For now it is still Leicester, thanks to Jamie Vardy snubbing Arsenal.

Mike McGrath

BEST NEW BOSS: City’s Pep Guardiola. Is he a genius? Or has he been in charge of great teams in easy leagues? We’ll find out soon.
BEST TRANSFER: Manchester United signing an Eric ticks all the right boxes. And Bailly is a big signing at £30million.
GET HIM IN: Paul Pogba would light up the Premier League at any club.
IN TROUBLE: Watford could live to regret getting rid of Quique Flores.

Graeme Bryce

BEST TRANSFER: Antonio Conte’s first signing at Chelsea could turn out to be his best. Michy Batshuayi gets ball, scores goals.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: England beat Wales.
GET HIM IN: I went all the way to Sao Paulo to be mesmerised by Neymar’s skills. Old Trafford is a lot easier to get to.
IN TROUBLE: I fear Spurs’ Champions League duties coupled with the England effect could lead to a huge hangover.

Tom Barclay

BEST NEW BOSS: We’ve been pining for Pep Guardiola since he quit Barcelona.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: Jamie Vardy sticking with Leicester. Fabulous news that gives hope to all smaller clubs — which Claudio Ranieri’s Unbelievables still are despite their historic Prem triumph.
GET HIM IN: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Borussia Dortmund’s gift of the Gabon could form a mouth-watering partnership with Sergio Aguero at Manchester City.

Phil Thomas

BEST NEW BOSS: Mourinho. The Special One is at The Special Club at last.
BEST TRANSFER: Ibrahimovic may not be a long-term hit like Eric Cantona but you won’t want to miss a minute.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: Granit Xhaka’s fee. He hardly set the Euros alight and £30million seems a lot.
BIGGEST BUZZ: Everton. Ronald Koeman was a great appointment.

David Facey

BEST NEW BOSS: It has to be Antonio Conte at Chelsea on the evidence of Euro 2016.
BIGGEST BUZZ: Leicester. Holding on to Jamie Vardy is huge, seeing how they tackle the Champions League will be a treat.
GET HIM IN: Antoine Griezmann. Atletico will surely be forced to sell and he would be an asset to any big club.
IN TROUBLE: Southampton. Yet another summer exodus, led by the manager.
