There has been huge speculation this season over the future of the Germany forward, who has hit 32 goals in 46 games this term.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been after the 24-year-old, who has fired Leipzig into Champions League contention.

Leipzig know if they do not sell Werner this summer they will face a £20m hit on his transfer fee, as his release clause drops dramatically in 2021.

Werner should agree personal terms at Stamford Bridge this week.

He had previously set his heart on a move to Liverpool after talks with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

But he knows he will get more game time at Stamford Bridge.

Nagelsmann has said there is now no way back for a player that has been hugely important to Leipzig over the last two seasons.

He told : "I do not expect Timo to be here next season."

Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno has backed his pal to be a success on the other side of London.

He told Sky Sports Germany: "I would be happy for him, Chelsea is a great choice, no question about it.

"The Premier League is faster, more physical. But I think he’s good for it. Timo is an extremely fast player.

"With his qualities and killer instinct, I’m afraid I have to say, he could be strengthening Chelsea."

The Bundesliga finishes on June 27 but Werner is unlikely to move to the capital until early August in preparation for next season.
