Antonio Conte misses out on £425,000 Italy bonus by one Fifa rankings place while Wales shoot up above England
Azzurri's tenth position not enough to net Chelsea boss payday as Chris Coleman's Dragons up to 11th and Three Lions in 13th
ANTONIO CONTE has missed out a massive payday by one place in the Fifa rankings — while Wales rose 15 places and above England.
Italy moved up to tenth in the latest release but ninth place would have netted the new Chelsea boss a £425,000 bonus.
The Azzurri missed out on the hallowed top nine due because of their defeat to Ireland and France’s second-place showing.
Didier Deschamps’ men fell short at the final hurdle as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Portugal in the Paris showpiece.
But they can console themselves with their impressive rise from 17th to seventh in Fifa’s latest rankings.
Les Bleus’ rise coupled with Italy’s famous loss to Ireland in the group stage stopped the Azzurri from accumulating enough points to break into the top nine.
Conte can take solace in the fact they were in 14th place when he took over and had shot down to 17th at one point.
Wales, meanwhile, have shot up a staggering 15 place to 11th after their most impressive showing ever at a major tournament.
England’s humiliating Euro 2016 exit to Iceland saw them move down to places to 13th.
Despite an impressive campaign, Northern Ireland drop two places to 28th while victory over Italy lifted Republic of Ireland to 31st.
Failure to qualify saw Scotland fall to 50th.
The top five remained unchanged with Argentina leading the way — followed by Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.
