Euro 2016: Renato Sanches named Young Player of the Tournament after his heroics helped Portugal to lift the trophy
The Bayern Munich star has picked up the individual accolade — which was part voted for by legend Sir Alex Ferguson
RENATO SANCHES has another reason to celebrate after being named as Euro 2016's Young Player of the Tournament.
The Portugal whizkid, 18, picked up the award after helping his country to finally lift the biggest trophy in European football.
Sanches beat off competition from international team-mate Raphael Guerreiro for the award as well as Bayern Munich colleague and beaten France finalist Kinsley Coeman.
The former Benfica man featured in six of Portugal's seven matches in the tournament and netted his first international goal against Poland in the quarter-final.
The award is open to players born in 1994 or later and selected by Uefa technical observers including Sir Alex Ferguson.
And that could hurt Manchester United who were heavily linked with a move for the youngster.
