Substitute Eder’s jink and bottom corner finish from 25 sunk the hosts 19 minutes into extra time at a broken-hearted  Stade de France in Paris.

And the cash bonanza he sparked is just part of the tournament’s total dish-out of nearly £257m – up 50 per cent on the Euro 2012 pay-out of more than £165m.

Each of this year’s finalists get around £6.8m just for taking part.
